Uses

The aromatic leaves flavour sauces, herb butters, salad dressings, vinegars, chicken, fish and egg dishes. Use fresh or dried; a little goes a long way thanks to its strong anise-like taste.

Growing tips

Surface-sow the tiny seeds and barely cover with about 3-5 mm of fine soil, keeping them in trays or small pots. Germination is slow and uneven, taking 14-21 days in warm, bright conditions. Transplant seedlings 30-45 cm apart into free-draining pots once they have a few true leaves. Harvest sprigs lightly from about 80-90 days, snipping the tips to keep the plant bushy.
