Uses

The savoury leaves flavour stuffings, pasta, butter sauces, soups and roast vegetables, and are brewed into a soothing herbal tea. Sage is also valued in home remedies for sore throats and as a fragrant, insect-repelling plant.

Growing tips

Sow seeds about 5 mm deep in a well-drained seed mix; germination takes 14-21 days at 18-24°C. Keep the medium just moist, never soggy. Transplant seedlings to pots when 8-10 cm tall, spacing 40-50 cm apart in full sun. Pinch growing tips to encourage a bushy habit. Begin light leaf harvest once the plant is established, around 100-120 days from sowing.
