Pseudoeranthemum reticulatum, popularly called the Golden Net Bush or Yellow-vein Eranthemum, is an evergreen ornamental shrub from the Acanthaceae family. Its main attraction is the foliage: glossy green leaves traced with a striking network of golden-yellow veins that brighten shady corners and mixed shrub borders.

In Indian conditions it grows happily in warm, humid climates and performs well across the plains and coastal belts. It produces small tubular white flowers marked with rosy-purple spots, but it is grown chiefly for its colourful, year-round foliage rather than its blooms.

Compact and easy to maintain, it is widely used for low hedges, foundation plantings, container displays and as a foliage accent. Regular trimming keeps it bushy and intensifies the leaf colour.

Uses

Colourful low hedge or border in tropical and coastal Indian gardens

Foliage accent and filler in mixed shrub beds and foundation plantings

Container and patio plant for shaded balconies and verandahs

Bright, low-maintenance ground cover in dappled shade

Growing tips

Plant or transplant at the start of the monsoon when humidity and warmth speed establishment.

Give bright, filtered light - too much shade fades the golden veins, harsh sun scorches the leaves.

Mulch the base to conserve moisture through the hot, dry pre-monsoon months.

In North India, shift potted plants to a sheltered spot or indoors during winter to avoid cold damage.

Trim lightly after winter to remove leggy growth and encourage fresh, brightly coloured shoots.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Golden Net Bush need full sun or shade?
It does best in bright filtered light or partial shade. A little morning sun deepens the golden veining, but harsh afternoon sun scorches the leaves and dappled shade suits it best.
Why are my plant's golden veins fading to plain green?
Faded veins usually mean too little light. Move the plant to a brighter spot with filtered sunlight and feed it during the growing season to restore the bright golden network.
Can I grow Pseudoeranthemum reticulatum in a pot indoors?
Yes. Use a rich, well-draining mix, place it near a bright window, keep the soil evenly moist and maintain humidity by misting. Trim regularly to keep it compact and bushy.
