Uses

Grown as an ornamental bedding and edging flower, annual phlox is perfect for mass colour in borders, the front of beds, window boxes and balcony pots. Its low, dense habit also makes a fine seasonal ground cover.

Growing tips

Sow seeds about 3-5 mm deep and cover lightly, as phlox germinates better in darkness. Keep at 18-23°C; germination takes 10-15 days. Transplant or thin seedlings to 15-20 cm spacing once they have 3-4 true leaves. Pinch tips early to encourage branching and deadhead spent clusters to prolong bloom. Flowering begins about 60-80 days after sowing and continues through the cool season.
