Growing tips

Direct sow or sow in trays about 1 cm deep, thinning or spacing plants 15-20 cm apart. Germination takes 5-10 days. Transplant seedlings at the 3-4 leaf stage if started in trays. Keep cool and consistently watered to prevent bolting. Harvest whole heads 40-55 days after sowing, or pick outer leaves earlier as a cut-and-come-again crop.
