Pachyveria scheideckeri is a popular intergeneric hybrid succulent (a cross between Pachyphytum and Echeveria) that forms compact rosettes of thick, fleshy leaves coated in a fine powdery bloom. In good light the silvery blue-grey foliage takes on attractive pink and lavender tints at the tips, making it a favourite for collectors and beginners alike.
Hardy and forgiving, it thrives in the bright, dry conditions found across much of India and stores water in its swollen leaves, so it tolerates occasional neglect. It is well suited to balcony gardens, sunny windowsills and mixed succulent arrangements, and slowly offsets to form small clumps over time.

Care guide
| Sunlight |
Bright light; 3-5 hours of direct morning sun. Protect from harsh afternoon summer sun, which can scorch leaves. |
| Watering |
Low. Soak-and-dry method: water only when the soil is fully dry. Reduce sharply in monsoon and winter to avoid rot. |
| Soil / mix |
Fast-draining gritty succulent/cactus mix; add coarse sand, perlite or cocopeat. Never use heavy garden soil that holds water. |
| Temperature |
Ideal 15-30 C. Tolerates up to ~38 C with shade; protect below 10 C. |
| Humidity |
Prefers low to moderate humidity; high monsoon humidity raises rot risk, so keep it airy and dry. |
| Fertilizer |
Light feeder. Dilute (half-strength) succulent fertilizer once a month during active growth (spring-autumn); none in winter. |
| Pruning |
Minimal. Remove dried lower leaves and spent flower stalks. Remove or replant leggy stems if it stretches. |
| Repotting |
Every 2-3 years or when crowded, into a slightly larger pot with drainage holes; best done in spring. |
| Propagation |
Easy from leaf cuttings or offsets; let cut/pulled pieces callus 1-2 days, then place on dry gritty mix. |
| Pests & problems |
Mealybugs and occasional aphids; root rot from overwatering. Treat pests with neem oil or insecticidal soap. |
| Toxicity / safety |
Generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets, but not intended for consumption. |

Growing tips

In Indian summers, shift the plant to bright shade or filtered light during peak afternoon heat to prevent leaf scorch while keeping colour.

During the monsoon, move pots under cover, hold back watering and ensure free air movement; the biggest killer is excess water combined with humidity. Resume normal soak-and-dry watering once dry weather returns, and feed lightly through the cooler growing months.
