Uses

Flowers and young leaves add a peppery, watercress-like bite to salads and garnishes; seed pods can be pickled like capers. Also a popular companion plant that lures aphids away from vegetables.

Growing tips

Soak the large seeds overnight, then direct sow 1.5-2 cm deep, spacing 25-30 cm apart. Germination takes 7-14 days. Avoid rich soil and heavy feeding to encourage abundant blooms. Flowering begins in 6-8 weeks and continues through the cool season. Pinch trailing tips for a bushier plant.
