Mussaenda erythrophylla, the red flag bush, is a tropical evergreen shrub grown for its spectacular display of enlarged, petal-like bracts in glowing red or pink that surround small star-shaped flowers. Native to West Africa, it thrives in the warm, humid parts of India, where it flowers abundantly through the warm and monsoon months. The velvety bracts hold colour for a long time, creating a near-continuous tropical show. It can be grown as a feature shrub, trained on a support, or kept in a large pot.
