Uses

The purified seeds are used in classical Ayurvedic and homeopathic preparations under expert guidance. The plant is grown chiefly for medicinal study and as a heritage tree; it is not edible and is toxic if consumed raw.

Growing tips

Fresh seeds germinate best - soak before sowing for 24 hours and sow about 1-2 cm deep in a seed tray of well-drained mix. Germination is slow and erratic, often taking 3-6 weeks at warm temperatures of 25-30°C. Transplant seedlings carefully once they are sturdy, 15-20 cm tall, into a deep pot or open ground. Being a tree, it grows slowly over years rather than seasons; handle seeds with gloves and wash hands afterwards.
