Uses

<p>Leaves are used fresh in herbal tea, kadha and home remedies for cough, cold and immunity, and the plant is sacred in Hindu households. Tulsi is also a natural mosquito and insect repellent on balconies.</p>

Growing tips

<p>Surface sow the tiny seeds, pressing them lightly into moist soil and barely covering them. Germination takes <strong>7-14 days</strong> at 22-30 C. Thin or transplant seedlings to 25-30 cm apart once they have 3-4 true leaves. Pinch growing tips regularly to keep the plant bushy and remove flower spikes for more leaves. Start harvesting from about 50-60 days.</p>

Frequently asked questions

When can I sow Tulsi seeds in India?
Tulsi is best sown from February to July when temperatures are warm. In most of India it can be grown year-round, but it slows and may need protection during cold north Indian winters.
Can I grow Tulsi in a small pot on my balcony?
Yes. A 20-25 cm pot with well-drained soil and 5-6 hours of sun is ideal. Pinch the tips often to keep it bushy and remove flowering spikes to encourage more leaves.
