Uses

Grown as an ornamental for sunny borders and pots and, above all, as the classic everlasting for dried bouquets, wreaths and crafts. Fresh blooms also work as long-lasting cut flowers.

Growing tips

Surface-sow or barely cover the seed as it needs light to germinate, keeping at 18-22°C; germination takes 7-14 days. Transplant when seedlings have 3-4 true leaves, spacing 25-30 cm apart in full sun. Stake taller types and harvest blooms for drying just before they fully open, then hang upside down in shade. Plants flower in roughly 80-100 days from sowing.
