Uses

Grown as an ornamental for sunny borders, edging and pots, and prized as an everlasting flower for dried arrangements and crafts. The long-lasting globes also draw butterflies to the garden.

Growing tips

Sow seeds about 5 mm deep in trays or directly, keeping warm at 22-26°C; soaking overnight can speed sprouting and germination takes 7-14 days. Transplant when seedlings have 3-4 true leaves, spacing 20-30 cm apart in full sun. Pinch tips for bushier plants and harvest blooms for drying just as they fully open. Plants flower in roughly 80-90 days from sowing and continue for months.
