Golden Shower (Cassia fistula), known as Amaltas, is a magnificent flowering tree celebrated for its long, pendulous chains of bright golden-yellow blossoms that cascade across the canopy in summer. A semi-deciduous tree with spreading branches and pinnate green foliage, it is a favourite avenue and ornamental tree throughout India, and the state flower of Kerala. After flowering, it bears long cylindrical brown seed pods. Hardy, drought-tolerant and adaptable to most soils, it thrives in hot tropical conditions.
