Uses

Sweet green peas are shelled for pulaos, curries, samosas and countless Indian dishes, and taste best eaten soon after picking. Being a legume, the plant also adds nitrogen back to the soil for the next crop.

Growing tips

Sow seeds direct about 2-3 cm deep and 5-8 cm apart, as peas dislike transplanting. Soaking seeds overnight speeds sprouting; germination takes 7-14 days. Give tall varieties a net or twiggy support to climb. Harvest plump, sweet pods from about 60-70 days, picking regularly to extend the crop.
