Felt Bush (Kalanchoe beharensis) is a dramatic Madagascan succulent prized for its huge, arrow-shaped leaves covered in dense, velvety felt ranging from silvery to bronze-brown. The wavy, deeply lobed foliage feels suede-soft and gives the plant a sculptural, almost prehistoric look. Over time it forms a knobbly, branching trunk and can grow shrub- to small-tree-sized in the ground, though it stays compact in pots. Slow-growing and very drought-tolerant, it loves heat and bright sun, making it a superb architectural specimen for Indian gardens, terraces and large containers where its bold texture commands attention.

Growing tips
In India it thrives in hot, sunny, dry spots; plant in very well-drained soil, keep it almost dry during the monsoon, and shelter from frost in north-Indian winters by moving pots indoors.
