Eranthemum (Eranthemum pulchellum), commonly called Blue Sage, is an attractive evergreen shrub grown for its showy spikes of vivid blue flowers set against deeply veined, dark-green leaves. Blooming mainly in the cooler winter months, it brings rare true-blue colour to shaded borders and understorey plantings. Compact and bushy, it suits mass plantings, woodland gardens and container displays in partial shade. Native to tropical Asia, it appreciates warmth, humidity and protection from harsh afternoon sun.
