Dieffenbachia seguine, commonly called Dumb Cane, is a popular indoor foliage plant grown for its large, oval leaves boldly marked in cream, white and green. Its upright, leafy habit makes a strong statement on floors and tabletops in homes and offices. Dieffenbachia is easy to grow in bright indirect light and forgives occasional neglect. The sap, however, contains calcium oxalate that irritates the mouth and throat, hence the name Dumb Cane, so keep it away from children and pets. In India it grows lush year-round with warmth, humidity and protection from harsh direct sun and cold.

Uses

Statement foliage plant for indoor floors, tabletops and offices. Adds bold tropical colour and texture to bright interior corners.

Growing tips

Rotate the pot regularly so the upright stem grows evenly toward the light. In Indian summers shield it from direct sun and maintain humidity to prevent leaf-edge browning.
