Desert Rose (Adenium obesum) is a slow-growing succulent shrub admired for its bold, swollen caudex (stem base) and clusters of showy trumpet-shaped flowers in pink, red, white and bicolours. Native to arid Africa and Arabia, it stores water in its trunk, making it exceptionally drought-tolerant and ideal for sunny balconies and rockeries across India. It thrives on heat, bright light and sharp drainage, flowering through the warm season. A favourite for bonsai-style display because of its sculptural form, it needs little water and dislikes wet feet. Its milky sap is toxic, so handle with care and keep away from pets.

Growing tips
Plant in a gritty, fast-draining mix and give it the brightest, hottest spot you have; water only when the soil is dry. Reduce watering sharply in the cool season to prevent rot.
