Uses

A premier ornamental for beds, borders and pots, dahlias deliver bold colour through the cool season. Their long-stemmed blooms are excellent for cut-flower arrangements and home decor.

Growing tips

Sow seeds about 0.5 cm deep in seed trays and barely cover them; germination takes 7-14 days. Transplant seedlings to pots or beds at the 4-6 leaf stage, spacing 30-40 cm apart. Stake taller varieties, pinch tips for bushiness, and deadhead regularly. First blooms appear in about 90-120 days from sowing.
