Uses

A classic garden ornamental for borders, beds and mass plantings, cosmos also makes a long-lasting cut flower for vases. Its open blooms attract butterflies, bees and other pollinators to the garden.

Growing tips

Sow seeds about 0.5 cm deep, spacing plants 30-40 cm apart, in a sunny spot. Germination takes 7-14 days. Cosmos can be direct sown or started in trays and transplanted at the 4-6 leaf stage. Pinch young tips for bushier growth; flowering begins in about 60-90 days and continues for months if you deadhead spent blooms.
