Uses

Fresh leaves are the classic garnish for curries, dals, chutneys and chaats, while the dried seeds are ground into a core spice for Indian masalas. Coriander also aids digestion and is valued in home remedies.

Growing tips

Gently crush the round seeds into two halves to speed germination, then soak overnight. Sow about 1 cm deep, spacing seeds 5-8 cm apart, and keep moist. Germination takes 7-14 days. Coriander is best direct sown as it dislikes transplanting. Snip leaves from 30-40 days; let plants flower and dry for seeds at around 90-100 days.
