Uses

An ornamental annual used as a tall border backdrop and in cottage gardens; its nectar-rich blooms attract bees and butterflies, supporting garden pollinators.

Growing tips

Sow seeds February to April (and again in monsoon in cooler regions). Direct sow where plants are to grow, covering lightly to about 5 mm; a brief chill or soaking can improve sprouting. Germination takes 10-20 days in warm soil. Thin or space plants 40-50 cm apart as they grow tall and bushy. Expect flowering about 70-90 days from sowing, continuing through the warm season.
