Growing tips

Sow seeds July to September in seed trays, barely covered (about 3-5 mm deep) with fine soil. Surface warmth of 18-24°C gives germination in 10-18 days. Transplant seedlings to pots or beds at the 4-6 leaf stage, spacing 30-40 cm apart. Pinch growing tips once or twice to encourage bushy growth and more flowers. Plants begin blooming about 90-120 days from sowing, peaking through the winter months.

Frequently asked questions

When should I sow chrysanthemum seeds in India?
Sow from July to September (late monsoon to early autumn) so plants mature and bloom through the cool winter months from November onwards.
Can I grow chrysanthemum in pots on my balcony?
Yes. Choose compact varieties, use a 25-30 cm pot with rich well-drained soil, give 5-6 hours of sun, and pinch tips for a bushy, flower-laden plant.
