Bunny Ears Cactus (Opuntia microdasys) is a popular prickly pear that grows flat, oval green pads in pairs, resembling rabbit ears. Instead of long spines it carries neat polka-dot clusters of fine golden glochids (tiny barbed bristles) across each pad. With age it branches into a bushy clump and may bear yellow flowers followed by red-purple fruit in ideal conditions. Fast and easy to grow, it is a cheerful, sculptural houseplant. The glochids detach easily and irritate skin, so handle with care. It needs bright light, gritty soil and minimal water.
