Best roasted, sautéed, steamed or stir-fried; the small sprouts have a sweet, nutty flavour once exposed to cold weather.

Growing tips

Sow seeds 1 cm deep in seed trays. Germination takes 5-10 days. Transplant seedlings at 4-5 true leaves, spacing plants 60 cm apart in firm soil and staking tall stems. Pinch out the top of the plant once sprouts begin forming along the stem to encourage even sizing. Harvest sprouts from the bottom up as they reach 2-3 cm and firm; the long crop matures about 90-120 days after transplant and flavour sweetens after a cold spell.
