Growing tips

Begonia seed is extremely fine, so surface sow on top of a moist, fine seed mix and do not cover; press gently and mist. Keep at 22-25°C; germination takes 14-21 days. Transplant when seedlings have 3-4 true leaves, spacing about 15-20 cm apart. Flowering begins roughly 90-120 days from sowing and continues for months.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to sow begonia seeds in India?
Sow from August to November so plants establish in the cooler months and flower through winter and spring. In hill regions they also do well in spring.
Why are my begonia seeds not germinating?
Begonia seed is dust-fine and needs light to sprout. Surface sow without covering, keep the mix moist by misting, and maintain warmth around 22-25°C; germination can take up to three weeks.
