Firecracker Plant (Russelia equisetiformis) is a graceful, fountain-shaped evergreen shrub with slender, rush-like arching green stems and tiny scale leaves. Throughout the warm months it is studded with bright tubular scarlet-red flowers that resemble little firecrackers, giving an almost continuous display. Its weeping habit makes it superb for hanging baskets, retaining walls, rockeries and pot edges where the stems spill over dramatically. Hardy, drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, it thrives in India's heat and is a strong magnet for sunbirds, hummingbird moths and butterflies. The fine texture and constant colour make it one of the most rewarding ornamental shrubs for sunny spots.
