Uses

A favourite novelty and teaching plant for the moving leaves; also a nitrogen-fixing ground cover, and its roots and leaves feature in traditional Ayurvedic remedies.

Growing tips

Soak seeds in warm water for a few hours, then sow 5 mm deep, spacing plants about 20-30 cm apart. Seeds germinate in 7-14 days in warm soil. Sow directly or start in trays and transplant young; keep warm and moist. Plants flower roughly 8-10 weeks after sowing and the touch-sensitive leaves appear within weeks of germination.
