Uses

Purely ornamental — grown as a winter bedding and pot plant for vivid, weeks-long colour in shaded spots where most flowers struggle.

Growing tips

Sow seeds September to October. As seeds need light to germinate, surface sow on a moist, fine seed mix and do not cover; press lightly. Keep at 18-20°C for germination in 10-21 days. Transplant at the 3-4 true-leaf stage into 15-20 cm pots, spacing 20-25 cm apart. Keep cool and lightly shaded. Plants flower roughly 90-120 days after sowing, through mid to late winter.
